Freestanding mosquito nets — no ceiling hooks, no cords
A freestanding mosquito net is fully self-supporting — no ceiling hooks, no strings, no fixings of any kind. It pops up over the bed in seconds and sits on its own frame, which makes it the right choice for renters, apartments, holiday homes, or any room where you simply can't fix to the ceiling.
Two different nets, for two different jobs
We make two freestanding designs, and they're built for different situations rather than being the same product in different sizes. The compact travel pop-up weighs about a kilogram, packs down small enough to go straight into a suitcase or backpack, and fits Single and Double beds — it's the one for backpacking, short stays and anywhere every gram in your luggage counts. The deluxe Freestanding net is built for Double, Queen and King beds and full-size, uncompromised protection; it packs down to around 74cm x 74cm, so it travels as its own item of luggage rather than fitting inside a bag, which makes it better suited to longer stays in one place, or a home where you want a permanent no-ceiling-fixing solution, rather than a carry-on.
Set up and pack away in seconds
Both nets self-erect in seconds and fold back down using their own specific pack-down method — full instructions come with the net. When correctly positioned over the bed with the netting sealed around the base, both provide complete protection from mosquitoes and other insects, the same as our ceiling-hung ranges.
Freestanding Mosquito Net FAQ
How much do the two freestanding nets weigh, and how small do they pack down?
The compact travel pop-up weighs around a kilogram and packs down small enough to fit inside a suitcase or backpack alongside your other gear. The deluxe Freestanding net is a bigger, full-size structure for Double, Queen and King beds, and packs down to around 74cm x 74cm — small for what it is, but it needs to travel as its own item of luggage rather than fitting inside a bag.
What sizes does the deluxe Freestanding net come in?
Double, Queen and King. It's designed for full-size, uncompromised protection over a proper bed, rather than the more compact single-traveller setup — if you need Single or Double for backpacking or short stays, our travel pop-up is the better fit.
Does the travel pop-up net fit a Queen or King bed?
No — the compact travel pop-up is built for Single and Double beds only, to keep its weight and pack size down for travel. For Queen or King coverage in a freestanding, no-ceiling-fixing design, choose our deluxe Freestanding net instead.
How is a freestanding net different from our ceiling-hung box or round nets?
A freestanding net is entirely self-supporting on its own frame — no ceiling hook, no cord, no fixing point required at all. Our box and round nets need at least one point of attachment to the ceiling or a bed frame. Freestanding is the right choice specifically when you can't or don't want to fix anything to the ceiling — a rental, an apartment, a hotel room, or simply a room with an awkward or high ceiling.
Is a freestanding mosquito net stable once it's set up?
Yes. Both designs use their own supporting frame to hold their shape and stay upright once erected, without needing to lean on or be tied to anything else. They're designed to stay put through normal use — getting in and out, rolling over — the same as a tent would.
Can I use a freestanding net outdoors, for camping?
Yes — the compact travel pop-up in particular is a popular choice for camping, since it's light, packs small, and needs no fixing points, which most campsites don't have anyway. Set it up over a swag, stretcher or camp mattress the same way you would over a bed.
How do I collapse a freestanding net back down for storage?
Freestanding nets use their own specific pack-down method, different from the figure-of-eight fold used on our round nets — it's designed to collapse the frame back to its travel size quickly and without force. Instructions are supplied with the net; if you've misplaced yours, contact us and we'll talk you through it.
Which freestanding net suits interstate or overseas travel, versus everyday use at home?
For travel — flights, backpacking, hotel stays — the compact pop-up is the one built for it: light, small, and sized for a single traveller or couple. For everyday use at home in a rental or apartment where you can't fix to the ceiling, or for a holiday house you want permanently set up without hardware, the deluxe Freestanding net in Double, Queen or King is the better long-term fit.
