Box mosquito nets — the four-poster bed canopy

A box mosquito net has a structured, rectangular shape that creates a genuine four-poster bed canopy effect — hung from four to six ceiling points, or tied and pinned directly to a poster bed frame. It's our most popular shape, and the one most often chosen when the net is meant to be a real piece of bedroom furniture, not just insect protection.

Four openings, generously overlapped

Every box net has four openings, one on each side, each cut with a generous overlap so the net falls closed on its own rather than needing to be pinned shut. When correctly sized, hung and sealed, it provides complete protection from mosquitoes and other insects.

Available in cotton, polyester or silk

Our box shape is made in all three of our fabrics. Cotton box nets are woven to around 256 holes per square inch and have real presence and weight over the bed. Polyester box nets are finer, at around 360 holes per square inch, lighter and more affordable. Silk box canopies are our decorative georgette showpiece, dual-purpose when properly sized and sealed. All are fully hemmed and finished, and available in Single through Super King.

What is a box mosquito net, and how is it different from a round net?

A box net has a structured, rectangular shape with four straight sides and four openings, creating a true four-poster bed canopy effect — it's the shape most people picture when they think of a decorative bed canopy. A round net, by contrast, hangs from a single ceiling point and drapes down in a soft, circular princess-canopy shape with one opening. Box suits a more architectural, tailored look and works especially well tied to an existing four-poster frame; round suits a softer, more romantic look and only needs one ceiling hook.

How many openings does a box mosquito net have?

Four — one on each side of the bed. Each opening is cut with a generous overlap, so the netting falls closed on its own rather than needing to be tucked or pinned shut every time. That overlap is what lets the net seal properly for insect protection while still being easy to get in and out of from any side.

What fabrics are box mosquito nets available in?

What sizes do box mosquito nets come in?

Box nets are made in every standard Australian bed size — Single, Double, Queen, King and Super King — with the Single size also comfortably covering King Single beds. Because the shape is rectangular, box nets also tend to be the easiest to size accurately against a four-poster frame, since you're simply measuring the top of the frame rather than working out a circular drop.

Do I need a four-poster bed to use a box mosquito net?

No. While box nets look fantastic tied to a four-poster frame, they're just as commonly hung straight from the ceiling with no frame at all — a box net has a sleeve across the ceiling that a hidden curtain-rod frame can slide into, or it can simply be suspended from four to six ceiling hooks. It suits any bed, four-poster or not.

How much airflow does a box net allow compared to a round net?

Very similar — airflow depends mainly on the fabric and mesh, not the shape. A box net's four separate openings, each with a generous overlap, actually give you more places to lift a panel for airflow than a round net's single opening, which can make a box net feel slightly airier in practice even though the netting itself is the same as in our round range.

Can a box mosquito net be used purely as a decorative canopy, without hanging it for insect protection?

Yes. Many customers tie a box net to a four-poster frame purely for the look, with the sides gathered back rather than let down and sealed. It still reads as a full four-poster canopy this way — you simply get the insect protection benefit as well whenever you choose to let the sides down and close it up.

Which fabric box net is the most popular?

Cotton is our best-selling box net — customers choose it for the natural fabric, the substantial presence it has over the bed, and its long lifespan of around ten years with proper care. Polyester is a close second, chosen for its lighter weight and lower price, and silk is chosen specifically as a luxury decorative statement rather than an everyday protection product.
