Our polyester netting is soft and see-through, woven to around 360 holes per square inch — fine enough to keep insects out while staying light and airy over the bed. Every net is fully hemmed and finished with a microfibre fabric that gives the drapes body and weight, so they hang and display beautifully rather than looking flimsy.

Protection without the weight or the price

When a polyester net is correctly sized, hung and sealed so the netting drapes closed to the floor, it keeps mosquitoes and other insects out just as effectively as our cotton nets — the difference is weight, feel and price, not protection. It's machine washable, dries quickly, and because it's lighter than cotton it's also the easier fabric to pack, carry and put up, which is why it's the fabric behind most of our travel and freestanding nets too.

What is a polyester mosquito net made from, and how fine is the mesh?

Our polyester nets are woven from soft, sheer polyester netting to around 360 holes per square inch — a finer mesh than our cotton netting — fully hemmed and finished with a microfibre fabric band that gives the drapes body and weight.

Is polyester netting see-through?

Yes. Polyester is soft, sheer and see-through, so it lets plenty of light through and doesn't shut a room off visually the way a heavier fabric can. It's a popular choice for kids' rooms and nurseries for exactly this reason — you can see in, and they can see out — while the netting itself still does its job as a physical barrier.

Are polyester mosquito nets machine washable?

Yes. Polyester is machine washable on a gentle cold cycle, and it dries quickly because it's a lightweight, quick-drying synthetic fabric. There's no shrinkage to worry about the way there is with natural cotton, which makes it a low-maintenance choice.

How long does a polyester mosquito net last?

A polyester net is built for years of regular use — the netting is fully hemmed and finished so it holds its shape wash after wash. It's naturally a lighter-weight fabric than cotton, so if you want the most durable, heaviest-duty option for constant year-round use, cotton is the step up; polyester is the easy-care, everyday choice most of our customers land on.

Is polyester lighter than cotton, and does that matter?

Yes — polyester is noticeably lighter than cotton, which matters more than you'd think. It's easier to hang, easier to pack away, and easier to travel with, which is why it's the fabric behind our travel and freestanding nets. If weight and easy handling matter more to you than the substantial, fabric-forward look of cotton, polyester is the better fit.

Are your polyester mosquito nets treated with insecticide or any chemicals?

Our standard polyester range is untreated — no insecticide, no permethrin, no chemical finish. It protects purely as a physical barrier, which is why correct sizing, hanging and sealing matters. If you're travelling somewhere with a real mosquito-borne disease risk, we separately stock long-lasting treated nets made by another manufacturer and approved for sale in Australia.

Why are polyester mosquito nets more affordable than cotton or silk?

Polyester is a synthetic fibre, so the raw material and weaving process cost less than natural cotton thread or pure mulberry silk. You still get the same fully hemmed, quality-finished construction and the same level of protection when properly hung and sealed — the price difference comes from the fabric itself, not from cutting corners on the build.

Are polyester mosquito nets a good choice for children's rooms or guest rooms?

Yes — it's one of the most common uses for polyester. It's light enough for a child to help open and close, sheer enough that a parent can see in easily, and affordable enough to fit multiple rooms or several beds without a large outlay. For guest rooms and holiday houses used only occasionally, polyester's easy-care, quick-dry nature also makes it the practical choice.
