Description
Travel Mosquito Net — Freestanding
A genuinely compact freestanding mosquito net for travel and camping. It self-erects in seconds, needs no hooks, cords or bed frame, and packs down small — into a water-resistant bag 43cm long, weighing about a kilo. A removable floor lets you set it straight onto a bed in a hostel, hotel or guesthouse, or peg it out on the ground and sleep outside.
Supplied from our base in the Northern Rivers of NSW, with over 30 years behind us as Australian mosquito net specialists. We ship across Australia and New Zealand.
Features
- Free-standing — self-erects in seconds, no hooks or cords needed.
- Removable floor — place it directly on a bed, or peg it out to sleep outside (eyelets included).
- Adjusts to fit Single or Double beds via a drawstring at each end.
- With the floor fitted, it stops fleas, bed bugs, spiders and other crawling insects reaching you.
- Packs to 43cm × 5cm in a water-resistant carry bag; about 1kg.
- No chemical treatment of any kind.
Fabric & colour
- White polyester mesh, 156 holes per square inch.
- Chemical-free — no permethrin and no other treatment, so there is nothing on the net you would rather not have near you or the children.
Size & packed size
- One size, adjustable for a Single or Double bed: 206cm(L) × 150cm(W) × 101cm(H).
- At 101cm high it is a low dome — comfortable to sit up in, not to stand or kneel upright in.
- Packed: 43cm × 5cm in a water-resistant carry bag; about 1kg.
Setup & care
- Free-standing — no hooks or strings required. We suggest you unpack and trial it at home before travelling.
- Hand wash in cold water without detergent. Dry in shade. No bleach, iron, dry cleaning or tumble drying.
Folding and Packing the Freestanding Travel Net
Packing this net away is the one part that catches people out. The frame folds asymmetrically — it is not the same twist-and-drop action as a pop-up laundry basket, and the net is held by the two loops at the top centre rather than by the frame itself. Watch the demonstration below and have a practice run at home before you travel.
Frequently asked questions
What beds does the travel freestanding net fit?
One size adjusts for a Single or a Double bed, using a drawstring at each end. It is not sized for a Queen or King bed — for those, see our Freestanding net, which adjusts from Double through to King.
How small does it pack, and will it fit in a suitcase?
It packs to 43cm × 5cm in a water-resistant carry bag and weighs about a kilo, so it lies flat in a suitcase or straps to a pack. It is a long thin disc rather than a compact block, so allow for the 43cm length.
Does it have a floor?
Yes — a removable floor. You can place it directly onto a bed in a hostel, hotel or guesthouse, or peg it out with the eyelets and sleep outside. With the floor fitted it also stops fleas, bed bugs, spiders and other crawling insects reaching you.
Does it need hooks, cords or a bed frame?
No. It is free-standing and self-erects in seconds, so it works in rooms where there is nothing to hang a net from and nowhere you are allowed to drill.
Can I use it outdoors when camping?
Yes. Fit the floor and peg it out through the eyelets. It is an insect net rather than a tent, so it gives no shelter from rain or wind — use it under a fly, a verandah or clear skies.
How fine is the mesh?
156 holes per square inch. That is a travel-weight mesh chosen to keep the packed size and weight down, and it is coarser than the 360 holes per square inch in our polyester bed nets.
Is the net chemically treated?
No. This net is untreated — no permethrin and no other chemical finish. If you would prefer a treated travel net, our WedgeNet travel nets are available in PermaNet-treated versions.
Is the travel freestanding net hard to pack away?
It takes a little practice. The frame folds asymmetrically, and the step most people miss is to hold the net by the two loops at the top centre rather than by the frame itself. A first attempt can be slow; once you have the knack it takes well under a minute. Watch the folding video on this page and have a practice run at home before you travel.
How do I wash and care for it?
Hand wash in cold water without detergent, and dry in shade. No bleach, iron, dry cleaning or tumble drying.
How is this different from your Freestanding net for Double, Queen and King beds?
This is the compact travel version: Single or Double only, a removable floor, and a small light pack. Our Freestanding net is the roomier home and larger-bed version — it adjusts from Double to King, has no floor so it sits over your existing bedding, uses a finer 360 holes per square inch mesh and is machine washable, but it packs to a bulky 69cm disc.
Do you ship across Australia and New Zealand?
Yes. We are an Australian business based at Lillian Rock in the Northern Rivers of NSW, and we ship this net throughout Australia and New Zealand.

mosquito net
How cool is this? It's not that hard to pack away once you have watched the video a few times. Well worth the effort.

Fantastic!
excellent product. would have given it 5 stars but it was quite a challenge to fold up - still well worth the effort though!

Travel mosquito net
Good product, arrived quickly thankyou, but I still cant fold it back up. It is in a semi folded state with the rest of the camping gear. I watched and re watched all the videos but mine just won't bend like the ones in video! Doesn't matter, still of great use!

Instructions
Your instructional videos helped. The one with the girl who never spoke was better. The muscley guy found his own wrong way to fold the net - I think it is no coincidence that he has such big muscles - his way is much harder than the girl's way. Hello John Thanks for your feedback, we appreciate it. I've now changed the order of the videos. With kindness Bronwyn

Travel Mosquito net
Similar experience to others. Unfolds in a second but folding it back took a couple of hours watching videos, reading the instructions. In the end it was relatively easy by watching the video mentioned in the instructions and carefully following the supplied instructions. Hopefully someone puts together a more crafted video explaining some of the finer points and pitfalls. Looking forward to using it in the African bush. Hello Eugene I am so sorry you experienced difficulties folding the net back down. So glad the video helped and you finally got the knack of folding it down.

Mosquiton net
The mosquito net is very good when its up and very easy to put up, it just pops up. The zip floor is great and I put it on top of hotel beds. However it is really hard to fold up. I watched the videos, practiced and still it was a bit hit or miss if I was going to get it, needed to try several times to fold it up. Such as shame as its a great product when up. Hello Patrick Thanks for your review. Yes, it is a great net, and yes, can be difficult to put down. Some people can fold it up quickly and easily and some people, like myself, can struggle initially. I stepped putting the net down through the video that we have linked to the product and finally have the knack. With kindness, Bronwyn

Travel Mosquito Net - Freestanding
Overall this product was perfect for my needs. Sadly the drawstring that pulls the size down to a single bed size came adrift on the first use but the freestanding net was still very useful. Hello Laura Thanks for your review and feedback. It is unusual for the drawstring to pull out. If you would like to contact us we can organise for a replacement net to be sent. With kindness Bronwyn

Love it
This tent is amazing! It went up in seconds and has saved me from being eaten alive in the outback. Only thing is the pack up, I have spent more than an hour trying to put it away and watching the YouTube clip repeatedly but have still yet to succeed in folding it up. Apart from that it is amazing!

Everything I had hoped for
The Equip freestanding mosquito net (untreated) is everything I had hoped for. Having researched at length, this one seemed like a better bet than any of the cheapies. I put it up on the balcony as an escape plan during the Sydney heat wave. They were not kidding when they said it self-erects in three seconds! It went foop, and there it was. The first evening I lay down in it, just to test what it was like, next thing I knew it was 3.30am and I was feeling very happy, it was lovely to be in the fresh air. As previous reviews had prepared me for, it took me 40 minutes to pack it up the first time, needed to look at the YouTube clip several times before twigging to the asymmetrical folding. Confident now. Frank was extremely helpful, as there was a major problem with the delivery, caused by staff at a local post office (Cremorne). I recommend The Australian Mosquito Net Shop and this product wholeheartedly!

mosquito net
Really liked this mosquito net. Perfect for my needs. Only downside is its quite tricky to pack away. Needed to look at the youtube each time as the provided instructions didn't help a lot. Once you have the hang of its great. Also have to be careful with the zippers as snags in the neeting area easy to happen. So far only a little run, and no hole
