Description

Cotton Box Mosquito Net — Queen

The Queen cotton box bed canopy is the size most Australian bedrooms are built around — a four-sided canopy of real cotton netting that encloses the whole bed and gives you a four-poster look with generous room inside. It is part of the range we design, make and supply ourselves — we are an Australian owned and operated specialist, over thirty years in mosquito nets.

100% natural cotton netting

This is woven cotton netting — real netting with a run-proof weave, not the inferior muslin some nets use. It is a soft, warm natural white, breathable in warm weather, and machine washable. Because the weave is genuine netting rather than close-woven cloth, air moves through it while insects stay out.

Complete insect protection — when properly sized, hung and sealed

Four openings with a generous 75cm overlap mean the doors fall closed behind you, with no gaps for insects to find. Fully hemmed with a 25mm band so the openings hang true and the netting drapes to the floor. Used properly — correctly sized, hung and sealed — it gives 100% insect protection from biting, flying, creeping and crawling insects.

Over thirty years of supplying cotton nets, our customers have told us the cotton weave also helps against the smaller biters — midges and sandflies — that slip through many nets. We cannot claim that as a laboratory fact; we can tell you it is what three decades of customer feedback and our own experience point to.

Size — made oversize on purpose

The Queen net measures 170cm wide × 220cm long, with a 220cm drop. Like all our box nets it is made oversize — larger than the mattress — so the canopy covers not just the mattress but the bed frame as well. That is what delivers complete protection: the netting clears the whole bed, frame included, and still drapes generously to the floor, with any excess gathering attractively into the corners.

Bed sizes vary around the world, so please measure your bed before ordering. If you have a four-poster frame, measure the top rails as well — poster frames vary far more than mattresses do.

Bed size Net dimensions
Single / King Single 110cm (W) × 210cm (L)
Double 150cm (W) × 210cm (L)
Queen, your size 170cm (W) × 220cm (L)
King 200cm (W) × 230cm (L)
Super King 230cm (W) × 250cm (L)

How it hangs

The box net can be displayed two ways. Hang it from four to six ceiling hooks for a floating canopy, or attach it directly to a four-poster bed frame — a poster bed needs no ceiling hooks at all. The canopy comes with 26 pairs of 30cm ceiling ties and a sewn ceiling sleeve that takes a curtain rod for a neat, contemporary look. Internal and external corner ties let you tie the openings back during the day to create a light, open Dreamspace. The ceiling panel is reinforced for structure and durability.

For plaster ceilings we recommend toggle hooks; for timber ceilings, cup hooks. You will find these at any hardware store, or you can add a matching hanging kit to your order.

No chemical treatment

Our cotton nets carry no insecticide, no permethrin and no chemical finish of any kind — nothing between you and a natural cotton canopy.

Colour

We supply natural white only, as colour preferences vary. The cotton canopies dye easily, and the simplest, most effective product we have found is washing machine dye. Use warm water only — slight shrinkage of around 5% may occur, and over 10% if very hot water is used.

Where to use it

This is an indoor net, made for beds — not for outdoor use over a patio, pergola, gazebo or umbrella. Indoors, it suits couples and everyday bedrooms — the Queen is the size most Australian beds are built around.

Care

Cold machine wash on a delicate cycle, cold hand wash, or dry clean. Line dry in the shade. Never tumble dry. Warm iron if you wish. Cotton netting is a woven product that stretches and shrinks a little when washed — you can pull and stretch it back into shape while it is still damp. Expect it to shrink in height by around 5% in cold water; washed in hot water it will shrink by over 10%, so keep the wash cold. Cared for this way, a cotton net lasts around ten years.

Frequently asked questions

What are the exact dimensions of the Cotton Box Queen mosquito net?

The Queen net measures 170cm wide by 220cm long, with a 220cm drop. It is made oversize on purpose — larger than the mattress — so the canopy covers not just the mattress but the bed frame as well, and still drapes to the floor. That full coverage is what delivers complete insect protection when the net is properly hung and sealed. Bed sizes vary around the world, so please measure your bed before ordering.

Queen or King — which net do I need?

Check your mattress against our size chart. Our Queen net suits a standard Queen bed at 170cm by 220cm; our King net is larger at 200cm by 230cm. Measure your mattress, and if you are between the two, size up: excess fabric gathers neatly into the corners, whereas a net that is too small cannot seal.

How do I hang the Cotton Box Queen net, and does it suit a four-poster bed?

Two ways. Hang it from four to six ceiling hooks for a floating canopy, or attach it directly to a four-poster frame — a poster bed needs no ceiling hooks at all. It comes with 26 pairs of 30cm ceiling ties and a sewn sleeve that takes a curtain rod for a contemporary look. For plaster ceilings we suggest toggle hooks; for timber, cup hooks — both from any hardware store, or add a hanging kit to your order. If you are fitting a four-poster, measure the top rails, as poster frames vary more than mattresses do.

What is the Cotton Box Queen net made from, and what does it keep out?

It is natural cotton — real woven netting with a run-proof weave, in a soft warm white. Properly sized, hung and sealed, it keeps out biting, flying, creeping and crawling insects, with four overlapping openings that fall closed so there are no gaps. Over more than thirty years our customers have also found the cotton weave helps against smaller biters like midges and sandflies. We share that as experience and customer feedback rather than laboratory proof.

Is the Cotton Box Queen net treated with insecticide or any chemicals?

No. Our cotton nets carry no insecticide, no permethrin and no chemical finish of any kind. There is no flame-retardant chemical treatment in the fabric. Many customers choose cotton for exactly this reason: it is just natural cotton netting.

What colour is the Cotton Box Queen net, and can I change it?

We supply natural white only, as colour preferences vary. The cotton canopies dye easily, and the simplest, most effective product we have found is washing machine dye. Use warm water only — slight shrinkage of around 5% may occur, and over 10% if very hot water is used.

How do I care for my Cotton Box Queen net, and will it shrink?

Cold machine wash on a delicate cycle, cold hand wash, or dry clean, then line dry in the shade — never tumble dry. Cotton netting stretches and shrinks a little when washed; pull and stretch it back into shape while it is still damp. Expect around 5% shrinkage in cold water, and over 10% if washed hot, so always keep the wash cold. Cared for this way, a cotton net lasts around ten years.

What comes with the Cotton Box Queen net — do I need to buy anything else to hang it?

The net arrives with its 26 pairs of ceiling ties, the curtain-rod sleeve, internal and external corner ties, and printed installation instructions. The only thing not included is the ceiling hooks themselves, since the right hook depends on your ceiling — toggle hooks for plaster, cup hooks for timber. Pick these up from any hardware store, or add one of our hanging kits at checkout. A four-poster bed needs no hooks at all.

Can I use the Cotton Box Queen net outdoors, or is it for indoor beds only?

It is made for indoor beds only — not for outdoor use over a patio, pergola, gazebo or umbrella, where wind and weather quickly damage the netting. Indoors it suits couples and everyday bedrooms, the size most Australian beds are built around. For safety around children, secure the net well above the bed, keep any cords short and out of reach, and make sure the netting cannot be pulled loose over a sleeper.

I'm absolutely delighted with the mosquito netting for my four-poster bed. After dealing with a bit of a mosquito issue, we decided to splurge on a cotton mosquito net. Not only is it beautiful, but it’s also practical. It’s truly transformed my once-dull four-poster bed into a space worthy of royalty.

    Absolute perfection

Posted by Bec on 4th Jan 2025

Exactly what we were looking for!! Feel like a princess laying inside and haven’t had a mozzie since... The quality is fantastic, and it is well-finished. We had been looking for a non-polyester net for ages and it’s so nice to not be adding more micro-plastics to the house. The cotton is sheer enough to let a breeze through but heavy enough to drape well. Couldn’t be happier.

    Best net I've found

Posted by Jo on 23rd Apr 2024

I've bought several of these nets for home & the shack because I hate being woken up by mosquitoes & I've used cheaper polyester nets which I had to mend as they easily got holes in them. These are the best I've found. They are thicker & the overhang means nothing is getting in. I had to use pegs to keep the ones I used to have from getting gaps as we turned over in our sleep. Really happy with these.
